Tickets for our concert Bach, Britten, Bernstein at City Recital Hall will go on sale this coming Monday 20th February at 9am! Tickets can be purchased here.

Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir is returning to City Recital Hall for an evening of seraphic singing accompanied by the Orchestra of the Antipodes. With a programme featuring J.S. Bach’s Magnificat, Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, and Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, the Choir’s ethereal sound will offer a musical experience to carry you through time and space.

The programme’s featured works will transport the audience on a musical journey, beginning in 1723 with Bach’s first major composition of a liturgical Latin text. Britten’s imaginative setting of Christopher Smart’s compelling text will be accompanied by Imogen Holst’s seldom-heard orchestration, made at the composer’s request. The concert will gradually build to Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, offering a captivating blend of the composer’s Broadway style and lyrical, intimate settings of three Psalms in the original Hebrew-language text. This work, orchestrated for soloist, full choir, and orchestra, has never before been sung by Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir, not least because of the difficulty of performing it in the Cathedral.
