Monteverdi: Vespers of the Blessed Virgin (11am & 7pm performances)

  • St Mary’s Cathedral Sydney NSW 2000 Australia (map)
Luca Signorelli (active 1470, d. 1523), Madonna and Child, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 is a Baroque favourite whose intricate layering fills the Cathedral with sublime sound.

Saint Mary’s Cathedral Choir and The Song Company are joining forces in the 450th anniversary year of Monteverdi’s birth, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Antipodes on period instruments.

You will be moved by a performance whose authenticity is outdone only by its expressiveness. The Choir performed the Vespers in 2013 to universal acclaim, and audiences have been clamouring to repeat the experience ever since!
